Ponzi Poker

For iPad

Ponzi Poker is the only game that blends all of the best elements of poker, solitaire, and investment fraud! Where else can you earn points by defrauding the elderly, incompetent, and gullible? Nowhere (besides the Forbes Rich List, of course)!

Here's how Ponzi Poker works in a nutshell: during most turns, you draw two Investor cards and select one to add to your Pyramid of Investors. Once you select an Investor for your pyramid, you draw four Investment cards (standard poker deck) and select two of them to add to your Accounts. To earn money, you must "pay off" Investors by providing them with their desired poker hand from your Accounts. Easy enough, right?

Well, sometimes (always) even Ponzi schemes don't work out as planned. Not every Investor you recruit will trust you with their hard-earned money and join your pyramid. Instead, these suspicious investors will spout off nasty rumors (facts) that you are promising far more than you could ever hope to pay out. When this happens, panic sets in. Investors will stop joining your pyramid, Investment cards will come in at a trickle, and your existing Investors will start getting panicked and demand to be paid off. Fail to promptly pay off all of your panicked Investors, and the panic will spread and spread until your entire pyramid is in revolt. Let this happen and your scheme goes up in smoke. Oh, and even if you do manage to prevent total panic, don't get too cocky. When you "borrow from Peter to pay Paul," you'll never really be in the clear – accumulate enough suspicious investors and no amount of eleventh hour payouts can keep your scheme afloat.

So, you're asking why run a Ponzi scheme if it's likely (100% certain) to fail? Excellent question, but what's that behind you? Nothing? Well, it was worth a shot. What was your question again? Oh, right, the point... destined to fail... right, right... Well, if certain failure didn't dissuade such luminaries as Carlo Ponzi or Bernie Madoff, why on earth should it dissuade you? The point isn't to get away with anything – that's just crazy talk! The real point is to have as much fun playing with other peoples' money for as long as you possibly can! If you wipe out a few peoples' retirement accounts in the meantime, don't fret – I can set them up with all sorts of other investments they can make that will replenish those accounts and more in no time flat!

Give Ponzi Poker a try. It's the only game that lets you have all the fun of fraud without any of the risk of spending 5-10 years in a minimum security prison!

D&T launches 2011 Hearst Annual Review website!

We're very proud to announce that our team developed and launched the website for Hearst Corporation's 2011 Annual Review last week!

The rich web experience features 9 individual sections of multimedia content (such as Newspapers, Magazines, Television, Entertainment & Syndication, Business Media, Interactive Media, Real Estate & Other Operations) spanning Hearst's many successful properties and their accomplishments last year, including the following functionality and content:

- Video
- Quizzes
- Quote widgets
- Slideshows
- Hybrid scrollbar/slideshow widgets
- Custom scrollbars
- Animated GIFs
- Letter from the CEO translatable into 5 languages
- Print/Share functionality with Facebook, Twitter, Email sharing as well as print/download PDFs
- Full timeline with flip animation for each date across the bottom of every page
- Multiple points of navigation with smooth animation transitions from page to page

We used the CodeIgniter PHP framework version 2.1.0, HTML5, CSS3 (with 3D CSS animation for WebKit browsers), jQuery and AJAX. The website was designed to run on Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer browsers, as well as the iPad. We're proud to have worked on this project and wish Hearst another groundbreaking new year!

The screenshots below are either scrolled up or scrolled down - in some you can see the multicolor navigation at the top, and in others you can see the timeline at the bottom, but they are visible at the same time on the live site.

We're proud to announce one of our D&T developers has released a brand new iPhone game with the indie game studio he's a part of: presenting Chipper's Nuts, the mobile debut of Nut Job Games!

Chipper’s Nuts pits one determined chipmunk against the clock - and the world!

Here's the premise: With his wife waiting back in the burrow with their chiplets (and her frying pan), stocking up on nuts is a life or death matter for Chipper. But there are squirrels out to eat those nuts, cats out to eat Chipper, and let’s not even get started on the nuclear squirrelcats. It's up to you to help Chipper gather those nuts, evade a gruesome death, and rescue his stray chiplets before time runs out.

We're always psyched to see our team doing what they love - support independent game developers and check out Chipper's Nuts! (...You'd be nuts not to). Congrats, Keith!

Get it on iTunes now...

D&T creates iMonitor Outstanding Ad!

Some of the work Dom & Tom does with Hearst Corporation is creating iAds with a wide variety of functionality for the iPad versions of their magazines, such as Popular Mechanics and Esquire.

More often than not we are developing the ads in either HTML5 or Objective-C based on assets provided by the advertiser, but there are cases in which we're called to design the creative for the iAd as well. One such case was the Platinum Guild International engagement ring calculator iAd for the new CFG: Cosmo For Guys iPad mag.

The ad calls boyfriends or husbands-to-be to use an interactive calculator to enter their salary, which then brings up a selection of PGI engagement rings within their budget. Our Creative Director Paul designed a sleek iPad experience based on calculator functionality on PGI's website and small flash banner ads, and one of our Senior Web Developers, DeVon, executed it to a "T," working out all the calculator logic and mini galleries of ring selections that drive to the PGI website for further info and purchasing.

We're happy to announce this D&T designed and developed ad has been featured in McPheters & Company's iMonitor Vol. 31 as part of the "Outstanding Ads" section!

Congrats to the D&T team and CFG! Find out more about our iAd work with Hearst here, and check out the CFG: Cosmo For Guys app here.
